Dental Crown Treatment: The Steps to Expect

Posted .

If you’re about to treat a worn-down, broken, decayed, or unattractive tooth with a dental crown, you’re on your way toward the top-notch oral health and smile you deserve. You’re probably also wondering what’s involved in the treatment process. If so, our dentist, Dr. Paul J Rubenstein, is more than happy to help you! The more you know, the more comfortable you might feel in the dental chair. So, he is happy to list the treatment steps, which are:

Step No. 1: Your dentist will numb your mouth with a local anesthetic. This will make it so you don’t feel a thing during your appointment.

Step No. 2: Your dentist will shave a small portion of your tooth enamel, which will make room for the dental crown to fit comfortably over the tooth.

Step No. 3: Your dentist will make impressions of the tooth and will send it to a dental laboratory where your crown will be made.

Step No. 4: Your dentist will cover your abutment (the remainder of your tooth) with a temporary dental crown. This will make it possible to use the tooth while you wait for your restoration.

Step No. 5: When the restoration is ready and sent to our clinic, you will come back for a second appointment to have the crown cemented over the tooth with a special dental cement.
